Which Search API Is Cheapest at High Volume? (2026 Costs at 100k–10M)
For LLM-ready web search, the kind of search API you feed to a model, Serpex lists the lowest monthly totals among the search APIs we checked at 100,000 and 1 million searches a month: $65 and $500 for results, or up to $390 at 100,000 with 10 pages of content per search. The nearest listed alternatives are Parallel and Perplexity Fast Search at $1.00 per 1,000 ($100 and $1,000 a month), then Exa Instant at $4 and Brave, Linkup, Perplexity, You.com and Tavily at $5.00 or more. At 10 million a month, Serpex moves to custom pricing and the others run $10,000 to $80,000 at list rates.
Sources, each vendor's own pricing page or docs, checked 1 October 2026: Tavily's API credits docs, exa.ai/pricing, brave.com/search/api, linkup.so/pricing, parallel.ai/pricing, docs.perplexity.ai, you.com/pricing and serpex.dev/pricing.
What does LLM-ready search cost at 100k, 1M and 10M searches a month?
Monthly totals at list prices, one search per request:
| API (rate per 1,000) | 100k a month | 1M a month | 10M a month | One request returns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Serpex, results only ($0.65 at 100k, $0.50 at 1M) | $65 | $500 | Custom pricing | Results as JSON: title, URL, snippet |
| Serpex, plus 10 pages of content (up to 6 credits) | Up to $390 | Custom pricing | Custom pricing | Results plus page content as Markdown |
| Parallel ($1.00 to $5.00) | $100 to $500 | $1,000 to $5,000 | $10,000 to $50,000 | Ranked URLs and compressed excerpts |
| Perplexity Search API ($5.00; Fast Search $1.00) | $500 ($100) | $5,000 ($1,000) | $50,000 ($10,000) | Ranked results with extracted content |
| Exa Instant ($4); Fast/Auto ($7) | $400; $700 | $4,000; $7,000 | $40,000; $70,000 | Results; page contents cost extra |
| Brave Search API ($5.00) | $500 | $5,000 | $50,000 | Results plus LLM context |
| Linkup ($5.00; $6.00 with a sourced answer) | $500 ($600) | $5,000 ($6,000) | $50,000 ($60,000) | Results, or a sourced answer |
| You.com Web Search API ($5.00) | $500 | $5,000 | $50,000 | Web and news results with snippets |
| Tavily, basic ($5.00 Growth, $8.00 pay as you go) | $500 | $5,000 to $8,000 | $50,000 to $80,000 | Results with snippet chunks; optional raw content and a generated answer |
Notes on the rows:
- Serpex prices by top-up size: $0.80 for $5 to $49, $0.65 for $50 to $499, $0.50 for $500 to $1,999, and Enterprise custom pricing from $2,000. Each cell uses the tier that month's spend falls in, and any month over $2,000 is custom. Content is billed only on pages delivered, and it's best-effort: it comes back for roughly 70% of requested results, while blocked or robots.txt-disallowed pages return a
content_error. - Tavily's Growth plan is $500 a month for 100,000 credits. We have no listed plan above that, so the higher volumes run from the Growth rate to pay as you go. Advanced depth costs 2 credits and doubles every figure.
- Exa Deep costs $12 to $15 per 1,000, or $12,000 to $15,000 a month at 1 million. Parallel's free tier covers up to 5,000 requests a month.
What does search plus page content cost per month?
If the model needs page text rather than snippets, compare what each request includes:
| Option | Per 1,000 searches | 100k a month | 1M a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Serpex with 10 pages of content | Up to $3.00 to $4.80 | Up to $390 | Custom pricing |
Tavily with include_raw_content (no extra credit charge listed) | $5.00 to $8.00 | $500 | $5,000 to $8,000 |
| Perplexity, extracted content included | $5.00 | $500 | $5,000 |
| Parallel, compressed excerpts included | $1.00 to $5.00 | $100 to $500 | $1,000 to $5,000 |
| Exa Instant plus 10 pages of one content type | $14 ($4 + 10 × $1 per 1,000 pages) | $1,400 | $14,000 |
Where others do better: if compressed excerpts are enough, Parallel's $1.00 end is below what Serpex charges for full page content. Tavily's raw content carries no extra credit charge listed, while Exa bills every page, so 10 pages per search adds $10,000 a month at 1 million searches.
Where do list prices stop and custom plans start?
| API | Highest listed price point | Above it |
|---|---|---|
| Serpex | Top-ups of $500 to $1,999 at $0.50 | $2,000 and up is Enterprise custom pricing |
| Tavily | Growth: $500 a month, 100,000 credits | No larger plan in the prices we checked |
| Exa, Brave, Linkup, Parallel, Perplexity, You.com | One rate at every volume | Same rate |
Two older routes are out for new high-volume work. Google's Custom Search JSON API "is closed to new customers", its paid tier is "$5 per 1000 queries, up to 10k queries per day", or about 300,000 a month, and existing customers "have until January 1, 2027 to transition" (checked 28 September 2026 on Google's overview page). Bing Search APIs were retired on 11 August 2025. Migration notes for both are on Google Custom Search API alternative and Bing Search API alternative.
Which should you pick at high volume?
- An agent that needs excerpts: Parallel or Perplexity, both of which include extracted text in the search price.
- An agent that needs full page text: Serpex with
include_content, if roughly 70% delivery works for you, or Tavily with raw content. - Generated or sourced answers: Tavily, or Linkup's sourced answer at $6.00 per 1,000.
- 10 million a month: get quotes. Serpex is custom at that level, Tavily has no listed plan, and a $5.00 list rate is $50,000 a month.
For every vendor's entry and volume rates, plus free tiers, see Search API Pricing in 2026. Side-by-side pages for each competitor are on Serpex alternatives.
What about SERP APIs?
A SERP API returns a copy of a search engine's results page, for rank trackers and SEO tools. It's a different product from a search API built to feed a model, and it doesn't return page content. If that copy is what you need, see SERP API vs Search API and SerpApi vs Serper vs DataForSEO.
FAQ
Which search API offers the most affordable plan for high volume?
For search results you feed to a model, Serpex lists the lowest totals we found at 100,000 and 1 million a month ($65 and $500), and moves to custom pricing above $2,000 a month. Parallel and Perplexity Fast Search are next at $1.00 per 1,000. If you need a copy of Google's results page for SEO tools instead, that's a SERP API, a different product.
Do search APIs get cheaper with volume?
Some do. Serpex lists lower rates for bigger top-ups, and Tavily for its Growth plan. Brave, Linkup, Exa, Parallel, Perplexity and You.com list the same rate at every volume.
Which search APIs return page content with the results?
Serpex (include_content, top 5 or 10 pages as Markdown), Tavily (include_raw_content) and Perplexity (extracted content) include it in the search. Parallel returns compressed excerpts. Exa bills page contents separately.
Can I still use Google Custom Search or Bing at high volume?
No for new projects. Google's Custom Search JSON API is closed to new customers, and its paid tier allows up to 10,000 queries a day. Bing Search APIs were retired on 11 August 2025.
How were these prices checked?
From each vendor's own pricing page or docs on 1 October 2026, Google on 28 September 2026. Monthly totals are the per-1,000 rate times the volume. Prices change often, so check before you commit.
